The main idea of this project was the creation of bended surfaces, by transforming the faces of a regular tetrahedron. Our lamp is consisting of 4 triangular pieces cut in their edges and combined through their arms by specially designed joints that are bended and twisted by using soaked bending. The first step of the process was to bend the four faces inwards, towards the center of the mass. Then multiple shapes derived of the transformation of the faces and different types of joints were explored in order to create the physical model. Each step of this experiment pushed the material closer to the full use of it’s capabilities. There are two versions of the lamp. In one, we used separate joints that combine each piece at their corners and allow more light pass through the gaps in between. In second version, we tried to use the arms themselves to join the 4 pieces to each other.
